THANKS TO THE BIRTH OF JESUS!!!
In a world like ours where some currents of thoughts that are inhospitable to Christian values are flourishing, where the post-modern man left himself to be carried away by post-modern thoughts that tend to construct and deconstruct at the same time, where man with his technological breakthroughs takes himself to be at the topmost part of the pyramid of reality, where nihilism is the new gospel, and therefore proclaims the “gospel of Nothingness” the nothingness of God and consequently the nothingness of man, where poverty has left indelible marks on the face of man, where corruption has been normalized and politics has been turned to a private business; where Christmas has been reduced to consumism and materialism, in front of all these anomalies that render the contemporary man restless, one may be forced to ask himself: what is the sense of Christmas? Where is the place for Christ in a world that has been soaked in the so-called culture of death? To all these questions that are shaking the foundation of the being of man, I would like to pitch a tenth with D. Bonhoeffer in his book “Resistenza e Resa”, where he maintains “ In truth things are in this way, if the earth was made worthy to sustain the steps of the Man-Jesus Christ, if a man like Jesus lived in this earth, then and only then for us men living has meaning”. And incumbent on the above, there is still hope for humanity in the person of God made man, Emmanuel-God with us. He alone can change this present dramatic situation. His birth is a reality always beaming with blessings. As such the sense of Christmas lies on the Child that is Born, not on the festivities. Only He can save us. For according to Mathew 1:23 His name will be called Jesus for he will save his people from their sins.
Humanity is in need again to connect itself to him, in order to remain unshakeable in front of all these bitter realities that surround him. As a matter of fact, only a U-turn back to Him, only the one who participates in Him can resist and win. He is the centre of all, and all revolves around Him. For this St. Paul affirms that all things will be recapitulated in Him(cf. Ef.1:10).
In all, I would like to draw the curtain here once again with D. Bonhoeffer “ In the story of the Antichrist of Solov’ev, narrates that in the last days before the return of Christ all the heads of the persecuted churches were discussing what is for each one of them the most precious element in Christianity. In the conclusive answer it was affirmed that the “Thing” most precious in Christianity is Jesus Christ. And really for this incomparable particularity of Christianity, I wish you really a Happy Xmas and a prosperous New Year. His person is the cause for joy. Thanks to the birth of Jesus for He is the secret of human history! Thanks to His birth for He is the Mediator per eccellenza, the bridge between Earth and Heaven.
